Last night I saw a V90 T6 with manufacturer/dealer plates and “TEST VEHICLE” graphics on the fender. Dang, thats a nice looking wagon.
(Photo not mine)
I just don’t get the SUV dominance and lack of wagons in the market. Maybe having options like this will tip the scales back just a little.

Is this a picture for ants?
I agree. SUVs are silly. Bring on the wagons.

I asked my mom why she bought a Crosstrek instead of a regular Impreza and it was basically for the ride height. THAT is the main reason people love SUVs/Crossovers, it’ll make them feel bigger and more imposing because they’re higher up. Add in the marketing (AWD is a MUST for the snow, they’re safer, etc) and the stigma of minivans and wagons and that’s why they’re popular. Unfortunately SUVs/Crossovers are here to stay because they’re very close to matching cars in fuel economy and handling. I mean hey, the popularity of the Cayenne and Macan is helping Porsche make its sports cars. Volvo’s SUVs are probably allowing Volvo to make this.

Wagons are not popular in the US because consumer culture here is all about getting the biggest thing with the most stuff in it. And it’s not just SUVs; next time you’re at a shopping center, check out all the giant things they have perpetually ‘on sale’. Our burgers can come in 1/2 to whole pound sizes. A ‘Large’ coke at a fast food joint is half a liter of liquid. Half a liter! You ever driven through a $200k or so subdivision? Each double decker McMansion there could house at least two small families in it, and some come with a driveway/garage combo that could easily host a tiny car dealership. To consumers in the US, the bigger the better.
Wagons in the US used to be a viable segment of the market, but that was only because you could get a wagon that would give you 30 MPG if you wanted. SUVs were (and still are) gas guzzlers. But now that the crossover has combined the space/largeness of the SUV with the MPG of a car, the wagon has become obsolete. They are and forever will be niche now.

Where are you finding $200k mcmansions? The south? Detroit? I need to move there... my tiny little house is over double that price and basically a shanty haha.

Those who haven’t driven a Subaru in the North East in the winter just don’t know. I swear by it now. The car has gotten me through unimaginable driving while the highway was littered with cars in the run off banks.

Have a V60 and love it ... will work hard to be able to buy the V90 when it gets to the US.
